Since its founding in 1898, the Olean General Hospital campus expanded through the decades to address the changing healthcare needs of the region. Today, OGH is one of the finest community hospitals in New York state, offering state-of-the-art services often found only in large city hospitals.
Olean General Hospital is part of Upper Allegheny Health System, which includes Bradford Regional Medical Center in Bradford, Pa. UAHS provides care to a service area with nearly 170,000 individuals in Southwestern New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania. Olean General Hospital is located in Olean, NY, a beautiful community located in the rolling hills of southwestern New York state, 70 miles south of Buffalo, NY.
With 186 beds, Olean General Hospital provides care to a service area of 110,000 people. The hospital has a medical staff representative of nearly all of the varied specialties and subspecialties in medicine and surgery. Especially noteworthy is the outstanding collegiality and support that exists among the medical staff’s 231 members.
The medical staff is proud of the programs and services they have created in response to the region’s healthcare needs. As a rural community hospital, Olean General Hospital has clinical and technological capability rivaling much larger metropolitan hospitals and has received numerous recognitions for its quality and safety.
Programs at Olean General Hospital include interventional cardiology and electrophysiology in partnership with the Gates Vascular Institute of Kaleida Health in Buffalo, the Mildred Milliman Radiation Medicine Center in collaboration with Roswell Park Cancer Institute, the Marie Lorenz Dialysis Center, the Gundlah Dental Center, a sleep medicine center and wound care and hyperbaric center, an inpatient behavioral health unit, an OB/GYN program and sub-acute rehabilitation unit. Olean General Hospital also has an accredited chest pain center with PCI, one of only six in New York state.
The hospital’s 14 bed ICU is directed 24/7 by intensivists and has the capability to provide continuous renal replacement therapy and therapeutic plasma exchange. The hospital operates numerous primary care centers and recently constructed an ambulatory surgery center on its campus. The Olean General Hospital campus also includes its own heliport that provides medical air service to quickly transfer patients in need of tertiary care to urban medical centers.
Olean General Hospital is not only a center of healing, but also a center of learning. Through its affiliation with the University of Buffalo School of Medicine, the hospital operates the only rural track family medicine residency program in New York state. Additionally, the hospital provides clinical rotations for a significant number of medical students from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Many hospital medical staff members enjoy opportunities to serve as voluntary faculty for these programs.
